Making hay while the sun shines

Making hay while the sun shinesSummer is rolling on and we have been busy making hay while the sun shines. Michael and I actually got brave this year and cut, raked and baled our own Pear Tree Farm hay just before Christmas. Very satisfying to have a quantity of our very own hay in the shed. We will need to buy in a little bit more but the big stress is off.

Our big adventure for the season was a fantastic trip to Melbourne and be a part of the Melbourne Cup Carnival. We were treated to great tickets thanks to Bruce Slade and Gai Waterhouse Racing on Cup day and we had such a great time that we went back to Flemington on the Thursday for Oaks Day, tickets thanks to Rosie Gibbs, who is training our lovely ‘Sunray‘ gelding ‘Knowing‘. We had a great time being in the buzz of the city for the week and got quite a thrill when we got to pat ‘Doriemus’ during the Cup parade on Swanston Street on the Monday. We are looking forward to doing that again!

Mares here have all safely foaled and we have had the foals up to the yards a few times for handling and farrier. All nice horses with nice natures.

We have a nice line up of yearlings that we will be aiming for the 2013 South Island Sale. These include colts by ‘Road To Rock‘, ‘Don Eduardo‘ and ‘Edenwold‘ and a cracking filly by the wonderful sire ‘Keeper‘. If you are interested in purchasing any of these yearlings prior to the August Sale, please feel free to get in touch with us. Their photos are on the For Sale page.
