Yearling sales are over and done with for the year. We presented a strong draft at the April South Island Session and were delighted with the results. Of particular note was Lot 1 Iffraaj – Lady Sakura filly who fetched $23,000 to the bid of Te Akau Racing. Our other horses were purchased by top trainers and it is exciting to see them head off to start their new lives in the very best of hands.
The Captain Rio – Joan’s Girl gelding that we passed in at the previous South Island sale, provided us with a great thrill when he convincingly won his first 2yo trial. We have him home spelling for a few weeks and aim to race him as an early three year old. We were lucky enough to purchase his dam at the recent Broodmare sale and we are excited at the prospect of selecting a suitable stallion to breed her with.
Pear Tree Farm in conjunction with MDR Bloodstock (Matamata) purchased two weanlings at the May Weanling Sale at Karaka. A filly by Pins – Centelise and a Jimmy Choux – Bemuze colt. Both are lovely types and will furnish into beautiful yearlings.
Our syndicated racehorse Hot Pants broke through for her maiden win at Oamaru over 1400m where she blitzed the field by 5 lengths. It was a very exciting day for all of the large syndicate involved and a fun night was had at the local Waimate Hotel.
